You may have to travel for many miles on dirt roads to reach your location in some cases -- this can be intimidating to some first-time RV drivers, and even to some with experience in this area, but the right simple approaches will ensure everything goes off without a hitch.

If possible, always try to do some research on the specific dirt roads you'll be travelling before setting out on your journey. If you're able to find a map of the area, that's ideal -- pay close attention to any potential detours or road closures that may have occurred since the map was made, however.
The Department of Transportation for your state should have up-to-date information on local roads, so look into finding the appropriate department online. The internet is also a great way to find advice and tips from other RV drivers who are familiar with your chosen road. There may even be message boards or forums dedicated specifically to dirt roads in off-the-beaten path locations, so be sure to explore all your options.
Utilize GPS and Satellite Technology
Today's technology offers a great way to plan your route before ever leaving the comfort of your home. If you have a GPS system for your RV, be sure to program in your chosen destination and any known road closures or changes. And even if you don't have a GPS system, simply utilizing the GPS on your smartphone can give you a good idea of the route you'll need to take.
In addition, taking advantage of satellite technology can give you a good idea of the current condition of the dirt roads you'll be travelling. Google Maps offers a "Street View" option that allows users to see specific locations all over the world -- this can be extremely helpful in getting a feel for what the road is like.
Maintain the RV
Before setting out on any long journey, it's crucial to perform routine maintenance checks on your RV or camper. This is especially true when you're planning to travel on dirt roads, as the increased amount of bumps and jostling can put extra strain on different parts of the vehicle.
Be sure to check all the fluids and make sure they're topped off. Also, give the tires a quick inspection for any damage or wear and tear -- especially if you've been using your camper on pavement or hard surfaces in the past. A spare tire is also an important part of any road trip, so make sure that's ready to go as well.
