Aug. 9 2021 News By Campers RV Center

If you're a regular RVer who takes plenty of trips in your quality RV, chances are you're often looking for a place to park the vehicle and get some overnight rest. And while there are some situations where paying for an actual RV setup with various hookups will be the prudent move here, there are others where you'll be looking to avoid spending any money -- and in these cases, you have plenty of good options as well.

At Campers RV Center & Powersports, we're here to not only provide a wide selection of new and used RVs, travel trailers and numerous related items, but also to offer tips and expertise on their regular usage to our loyal clients. Through our decades in the industry, we've learned all the tricks of the trade when it comes to finding free RV parking - this two-part blog series will go over some of the top recommendations we can make here.

Free RV Parking at Rest Stops

Our first suggestion is to establish a habit of parking overnight at rest stops, which can be found on both sides of highways throughout the United States. These come in handy for a number of reasons, including the fact that you'll have access to complete amenities such as restrooms, shower stalls, water refills, vending machines and more.

RV Parking at Truck Stops

Another option is to park at truck stops. These are convenient because many of them offer amenities such as diesel fuel, showers, restaurants and more. They're also perfect for overnight travelers because the parking spaces are longer to accommodate oversized vehicles, which removes any need to fit into a tight space. Just be sure you aren't taking up any spots that are reserved specifically for trucks, especially if the stop is crowded.

RV Parking at Hotels or Motels

In the event that an over-night stay is required, it's possible to park at a hotel or motel. These are ideal because they are typically equipped with parking spots that are improved for RV travelers. Just be sure that if you're going this route, no permit is required -- and there are no signs up warning about private parking or towing risks if you park in this lot.

Free RV Parking at Walmarts

Walmart can be another good option, one often considered by those who are RVing in moderately populated areas. Some of these retailers offer overnight parking in their store parking lot, which also makes it handy if you need to make a quick run for milk and eggs. Some Walmarts even have cameras or other forms of security. You should always call the store to confirm before planning your stay, as not all Walmarts offer this option.
