Debunking RV Myths: Driving, Parking, Camping Comps

Nov. 8 2021 News By Campers RV Center

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the most common myths out there surrounding RVs and campers, plus the correct information on each of these areas. The increasing rise in popularity of RVing has also unfortunately led to a few misconceptions spreading around regarding them, but our experts are here to set you straight.

At Campers RV Center and Powersports, our huge fleet of campers and RVs is backed by professionals who have all the expertise you might need when either selecting or maintaining your RV. Here are a few of the other myths we've heard most often, plus the proper information in each of these areas.

RV Trips Involve Too Much Driving

We're not sure where this particular myth comes from, but it's one that can be debunked in a single sentence if needed: How much driving you do on a given RV trip is entirely up to you.

If you're the type who doesn't want to sit in a vehicle for huge periods at a time, it's easy to schedule short trips around the area. This way, you get to stay in your destination's general vicinity while still experiencing many of its highlights and attractions.

And of course, even if your drives are planned for larger swaths of road, you can always take breaks and stretch your legs throughout the day to avoid feeling unpleasantly stiff afterward.

RVs Can Only Be Parked in Crowded, Expensive RV Parks

While RV parks are indeed one method of parking for RVs (and many of them today are reasonably-priced and not overcrowded), they're far from your only option. There are numerous other ways you can park the RV during your trip, such as taking advantage of free roadside parking or utilizing a marina and staying on water and power.

Another possibility worth considering is to simply rent out one of the many public campgrounds around the country, which typically offer cheaper rates than private RV parks and also welcome RVs. Some will even allow you plenty of time for freecamping (for as long as you want) within the grounds.

RVing Isn't Camping!

This is a particular myth we sometimes hear from camping purists, if you will -- folks who don't believe that the use of a vehicle such as an RV should "count" as true camping. Our advice: Let these folks be right if they want to!

That's because, in reality, it doesn't really matter what you call it. If you prefer an RV to the more rugged tent-and-outdoors camping experience, who's to tell you otherwise? Simply prioritize what's best for you and your family, and let those overly concerned about meaningless terminology worry about that on their own time.
